A car accident early this morning (17th) near Godagama Junction on the High Level Road caused a major water supply disruption. A vehicle lost control, hitting a water pipe carrying water from the Kalatuwawa Reservoir to Maharagama, causing the pipe to burst. This incident has led to the suspension of water supply to over 100,000 homes in the areas of Godagama, Homagama, Pannipitiya, Rukmalgama, Palanwatta, and Mattegoda.

The police report that the car, traveling at high speed, veered off the road, struck the water pipe, and then returned to the road before coming to a stop. The impact caused a high-pressure water stream to damage a nearby electrical wiring system.

The high-pressure water release created a large water surge, which has since been contained. The four occupants of the car sustained minor injuries and have been admitted to Base Hospital Homagama. The water supply remains suspended until further notice as repairs are underway.
