A group of 21 students from Kilinochchi Dharmapuram Central College were hospitalized following a wasp attack near the end of the school day yesterday (13th). Four of the students are in critical condition and have been transferred to Kilinochchi Hospital, while the others are receiving treatment at Dharmapuram Hospital. Nine students were discharged in the evening.
The incident occurred when a strong afternoon wind dislodged a wasp nest from a tree on the school grounds, causing the wasps to sting the students. Despite previous incidents and ongoing reports to various institutions, six wasp nests remain on the school premises, posing a continued threat to students and staff. Last year, a similar attack resulted in the hospitalization of seven students.
