Foreign Minister Ali Sabry, currently on an official visit to Russia, held a meeting with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, to discuss bilateral issues of mutual interest. A significant point of discussion was the issue concerning Sri Lankan nationals who have joined the Russian military. Minister Sabri expressed concerns about the difficulties faced by these individuals and requested the intervention of the Russian government. In response, Foreign Minister Lavrov assured that no further Sri Lankans would be recruited for military service in Russia.
Furthermore, it was announced that a delegation of high-ranking Sri Lankan officials will travel to Russia on June 26-27 to engage in further discussions with Russian authorities regarding this matter. This visit underscores the commitment of both nations to resolving the issue amicably and strengthening their bilateral relations.
