Model Janasabhas, established under the “Janasabha” initiative to ensure regular public participation in policymaking, have been successfully implemented across the island. Today (15 December), Valvettithurai in Jaffna held its first unique public assembly.

In addition to establishing a Janasabha chaired by the Jaffna District Secretary, a loan program for small and medium-scale entrepreneurs and a plant distribution initiative for gardening were also launched.

These Janasabhas create physical, human, and other development plans to organize and develop their village (or urban unit). They identify priorities, resources, needs, and grievances to act as a formal management mechanism.

Furthermore, Janasabhas are empowered to function independently as living structures, driving the village’s economic, social, and cultural revival and development.

This system empowers people and opens space for national development through individual development, accelerating rural progress.
