A varied group of seventy-one foreign election observers have started their pre-observation work in Sri Lanka in advance of the next elections. There are six delegates from the Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL), twenty-two from the Commonwealth, and forty-three from the European Union (EU) on this team.

The 22 electorates are being covered by these teams, according to the National Election Commission, in order to guarantee a thorough and open observation procedure. The mission will be strengthened in the following days by the recruitment of 34 more EU observers, three more ANFREL observers, and seven observers from nearby nations, all of whom will contribute to free and fair elections.
