Dilhani Lekamge competed in the preliminary round of the women’s javelin throw at the Olympics today, marking the final representation for Sri Lanka in this event. She finished 16th in the preliminaries with a best throw of 53.66 meters, which did not qualify her for further rounds. Currently ranked 25th among the world’s javelin throwers, Dilhani has had a commendable career.

At 37, she made history as the oldest athlete from Sri Lanka to participate in the Olympics and is the third Olympian from the country to compete in the women’s javelin throw. Despite not advancing, Dilhani has achieved significant success in her career. She secured third place at the Asian Throwing Championship in Korea two months ago with a throw of 57.94 meters. Additionally, she won a silver medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, ten months ago, setting a new Sri Lankan record with a throw of 61.57 meters.
