The music unit at Kannangara Model College, Anamaduwa, was severely damaged by fire on August 4th. Preliminary investigations by the police have identified an 8th-grade student from the school as the primary suspect, though there are indications that a student from another institution may also be involved.
The college’s principal, Mr. Wimal Wijeratne, along with a dedicated team of teachers, managed to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other buildings. Despite their efforts, the fire caused substantial losses, destroying musical instruments worth over Rs. 20 lakh and damaging the building by more than Rs. 70 lakh.
