In a significant political development, S. Chandrasena, a Member of Parliament from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), has declared his support for President Ranil Wickremesinghe in the upcoming presidential election. This announcement was made at the SLPP’s Anuradhapura District Committee meeting held today, July 30.
Chandrasena’s statement confirms that the Anuradhapura District Committee has collectively decided to back the current president, Ranil Wickremesinghe, rather than endorsing a new candidate in the presidential race.
Following this decision, the Anuradhapura district election operation will be geared towards supporting Wickremesinghe’s re-election campaign. Minister of State Pramitha Bandara Tennakoon has also voiced his support for the president, affirming that whatever decision is made by the SLPP politburo, they will continue to back Wickremesinghe.
Additionally, Minister of State Shehan Semasinghe has publicly declared his support for President Wickremesinghe, aligning with the party’s decision.
