Police Warn Public About Circulating Fake Letter on Social Media

The Police Media Division has issued a special announcement regarding a fake letter currently circulating on social media platforms.

According to police headquarters, the fraudulent letter has been designed with a yellow background, featuring a blue police signature, Dharmachakra symbol, rubber seal, and police official insignia. This misleading document has been falsely attributed to Inspector General of Police Deshbandu Tennakoon, and it appears to have been issued on July 1, 2024.

Inspector General Tennakoon has clarified that the letter is entirely forged and urges the public not to be deceived by it. He emphasized that no such letter has been issued by the Sri Lanka Police or any affiliated entities.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched an investigation into the creation and dissemination of this counterfeit letter. Authorities are determined to identify and prosecute those responsible for this forgery.

For public awareness, a copy of the fake letter has been released by the police. The public is advised to remain vigilant and rely only on official communications from the police.
