Early this morning, a serious collision occurred on the Kandy-Jaffna A9 road, resulting in two individuals being hospitalized. The accident took place around 3:00 am in the Mihintale – Palugaswewa area, involving a lorry transporting vegetables and a stationary fuel bowser.

According to the Mihintale Police, the vegetable lorry, en route from Jaffna to the Dambulla Economic Center, collided with the rear of the fuel bowser, causing it to overturn and block the road. The driver and the assistant of the vegetable lorry, both residents of Jaffna, were injured and promptly taken to the hospital.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver of the vegetable lorry may have fallen asleep at the wheel, leading to the accident. Further inquiries are being conducted by the traffic department under the guidance of Chief Inspector Ranjith Chandrasiri, Station Commander of Mihintale Police.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
