Minister Suspends Four Sports Associations to Oversee Fair Elections
The Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Mr. Harin Fernando, has issued an extraordinary gazette notice temporarily suspending the registration of four sports associations: the Sri Lanka Cycling Federation, Sri Lanka Rugby Association, Sri Lanka Automobile Federation, and Sri Lanka Netball Federation.
This directive, signed by Minister Harin Fernando, grants Professor Rear Admiral Shemal Fernando, the Director General of the Sports Development Department, the authority to conduct official elections for these associations, effective immediately.
Minister Fernando emphasized that the suspension aims solely to ensure the proper conduct of the upcoming elections within these sports bodies. He reiterated that the government remains committed to its policy against imposing interim control committees on any sports association or federation.
