A former England cricket international is under investigation by the Metropolitan Police for an alleged sexual assault and for allegedly spiking the drinks of two women at a London pub.
The alleged incident took place in May at a pub in Chelsea called “The Boundary,” which is co-owned by several prominent cricketers, including England’s head coach Brendon McCullum and white-ball captain Jos Buttler. The other co-owners, none of whom were present at the time of the alleged incident, include Eoin Morgan, Sam Billings, and Graeme Smith.
The police confirmed that a man in his 40s was interviewed under caution in June in connection with the complaint. The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made.
The allegations come at a time when English cricket is grappling with several issues of misconduct. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is reportedly aware of the allegations but has declined to comment.
