The Sri Lanka Planetarium was designed and built by Dr. A.N.S. Kulasinghe as a major exhibit of the Industrial Exhibition held in 1965. As the structural decay and deterioration of the structure of the building is currently being inspected, the need to modernize it while maintaining its unique architectural features has been identified as a necessity.
Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Science and Technology to assign the relevant function to the National Research and Development Center (NERD) that has the specialized knowledge of prefabricated concrete technology based on the consensus given by the National Procurement Commission.
