Kurunegala District SJB MP Dayasiri Jayasekara, making a statement in Parliament yesterday, demanded an explanation from government politicians regarding their acquisition of cryptocurrency and Tether (USDT).
Raising a privilege issue the MP questioned how Minister Wasantha Samarasinha had come to possess 3,000 units of cryptocurrency and how Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne had obtained 1,850 USDT from a Binance account.
Jayasekera said that if the government members had violated the Declaration of Assets and Liabilities Act, then agencies, such as the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, and the CID, had to launch immediate investigations and take legal action against the transgressors.
