Navy lifesavers rescue child in difficulties from Verugal river

The Sri Lanka Navy lifesaving team averted a tragedy by rescuing a seven-year-old girl from possible drowning in the Verugal Aru, Trincomalee on 05 Sep 2025.

The Navy had deployed a lifesaving team to ensure the safety of devotees attending the annual festival at the Murugan Hindu Temple in Verugal.

Having spotted a child in difficulties in the river where a group of devotees were bathing, the vigilant Navy lifesaving team acted  swiftly to save her.

After being rescued, the child, who is a resident of Pattananthare in Trincomalee, received immediate first aid from the Navy team and subsequently handed over to her  family.
