In response to a request from the Election Commission in advance of this Saturday’s (21st) presidential election, the Ministry of Education has declared that all schools will be closed tomorrow (20th). Reopening of the schools is scheduled for Monday, the 23rd.
Furthermore, on Thursday at the end of the day, schools that have been designated as voting stations must be turned over to their respective Grama Niladharies (19th). The principals of the schools and the zonal education directors have been informed in order to make sure that all the equipment—such as seats and tables—is set up for a seamless voting procedure.
Only the time frame specified in the Ministry’s official circular will schools that will act as counting centers be closed.
