Cabinet Greenlights Public-Private Partnerships for Railway Station Development

The Minister of Transport and Highways’ plan to invite competitive bids from investors to renovate important train stations around the island was accepted by the Cabinet of Ministers. The goal of this project, which is a component of the public-private partnership (PPP) model, is to improve and modernize the railway infrastructure.

To find qualified investors interested in developing a number of well-known stations, including Kollupitiya, Bambalapitiya, Wallawatte, Slave Island, Dehiwala, and Mount Lavinia, Expressions of Interest (EOIs) have been requested. These stations are near Colombo and have the potential to change under the PPP system.

Since interest in these stations has already been aroused, it is now expected that other railway stations in the nation may follow suit, indicating the possibility of island-wide growth via comparable public-private partnerships.
