At a press conference held yesterday at the Government Information Department, Cabinet Spokesman Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardane revealed that a new, digital passport will be accessible at a reduced cost beginning in October (3).
Dr. Gunawardane clarified that the choice to purchase the digital passports from a new agency rather than the established provider was the reason for the launch’s delay. The administration is sorry for the wait this change has created.
He went on to say that the adjustment was required in order to abide with the agreement of the International Monetary Fund, which stipulates that procurement and tendering procedures must be more open.
