The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Sri Lanka has urged voters to choose a leader who possesses bravery and wisdom, one who can bring about the much-needed systemic reform and eradicate corruption. The Bishops issued a forceful statement emphasizing the urgent need for a change in the political culture of the country, which now encourages people to seek positions of power for their own selfish purposes, frequently at the expense of the welfare of the populace and the advancement of the nation.

“It is important to stress the need to alter the political culture that encourages people to lust for positions of authority and power in order to further their own self-serving goals and interests at the expense of the welfare of the populace and the advancement of the nation. The statement said, “To make the long-needed system change to eradicate corruption and its real ills, the nation needs a wise and courageous leader.”

Bishop J.D. Anthony Jayakody, secretary of the Sri Lanka Catholic Bishops’ Conference, and Bishop Harrold Anthony Fernando, president, both signed the request. The Bishops asked voters to support a candidate who can usher in a new political culture that is centered on the advancement of the country and the elimination of pervasive corruption.
