The biggest connection provider in Sri Lanka, Dialog Axiata PLC, powered the Sri Lanka Sports Fiesta 2024, which ended with great success and established a new record for the country’s sports history. The Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism and Lands, organized this three-day event with the goal of inspiring and giving the next generation of athletes a distinguished platform.
Several significant sporting organizations were present at the event, including the Sri Lanka Air Force, Sri Lanka Basketball Federation, Sri Lanka Hockey Federation, Football Federation of Sri Lanka, Rugby Association of Sri Lanka, Volleyball Federation of Sri Lanka, and Sri Lanka Cricket. With the help of key partners like IPG Group, Emerging Media, and Triad, as well as co-sponsors like Prima, Elephant House, Cinnamon Hotels, American Water, Frosty, 100 Plus, and LYCA, the event was a huge success. Competing in seven major sports—cricket, rugby, football, volleyball, netball, hockey, and basketball—more than 3,000 participants took part in the Fiesta. Despite some difficult weather, every competition was painstakingly planned to provide a top-notch competitive atmosphere.
The announcement and farewell of the Sri Lankan Paralympic squad, who will compete in the Paralympic Games in Paris in 2024, was one of the event’s most memorable events. This eight-person team, sponsored by Dialog Axiata, is a representation of the nation’s pride and devotion; their voyage embodies the aspirations of all Sri Lankans.
One of the main attractions was the Air Force Commander’s Cup Rugby Tournament, which took place at the Race Course in 2024. Twelve men’s clubs, four women’s teams, and fourteen schools competed in the event, which featured thrilling matchups in the men’s, women’s, and U-16 divisions.
At the Sri Lanka Air Force Indoor Stadium in Colombo 07, Radawana Golden Birds Sports Club and MAS Sports Club emerged victorious in the Dialog President’s Gold Cup Volleyball 2024.
The T10 Cricket Tournament at Thurstan College and Bloomfield grounds attracted a lot of attention despite the bad weather, and Galle, captained by Dunith Wellalage, emerged victorious.
Twenty-four men’s and ten women’s teams competed fiercely in the 2024 3×3 Basketball Championships, which were hosted at the 3×3 Court of the Sri Lanka Basketball Association. Twelve senior and six junior teams competed in the exciting 5-a-side Mini Football Tournament 2024, which was held at the Race Course venue under the lights.
In netball, Maliyadeva Girls College defeated 20 other teams to win the Youth Netball Championships 2024 at the Torrington Ground. Despite the bad weather, 33 teams from senior and U-20 divisions competed in the President Gold Cup Hockey Tournament 2024 at the Astro Turf in Colombo 07.
