The Election Commission has prohibited the use of national flags and religious symbols in election campaigns. A circular issued on August 14th emphasized that utilizing these symbols in campaign activities is considered a violation.

The Commission has warned that strict action will be taken against any parties that incorporate national flags into their presidential election campaigns. Despite this directive, organizers for President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s inaugural campaign rally in Anuradhapura had arranged to distribute large-sized national flags to attendees.
