The Election Commission will commence the acceptance of presidential election nominations today, August 15, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at their Rajagiriya office auditorium. Objections to the nominations can be submitted between 9:00 am and 11:30 am.
The deadline for depositing bail money for the presidential election ended yesterday, August 14, at 12:00 noon. A total of 40 candidates have submitted their bail money.
Following the acceptance of nominations, the Election Commission will review objections and announce the final list of candidates eligible for the presidential election. Ballot markers will also be issued to independent candidates.
To ensure a secure process, a special security plan has been implemented around the General Election Secretary’s office. Acting Police Media Spokesman DIG Ruwan Gunasekara confirmed that approximately 1,000 police officers have been deployed for the security program.
