The police have announced a special traffic plan for the cremation ceremony of Venerable Galaboda Gnanissara Thera, which will take place today from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM around the Gangarama Temple.
Traffic restrictions are as follows:
- Entry Restrictions: Vehicles entering the temple from Perahera Mawatha and Jinarathana Mawatha are permitted. All other access points towards James Peiris Mawatha from Dharmapala Mawatha and the James Peiris Mawatha junction will be restricted.
- James Peiris Mawatha Access: Vehicles entering from Jinarathana Mawatha may only proceed towards the Kompannavidiya junction. Entry from James Peiris Mawatha Perahera junction towards Kompannavidiya junction will be restricted. Vehicles from Muttiah Road entering James Peiris Mawatha may only proceed towards Kompannavidiya Junction. Those entering from Altair are also restricted to the Company Street Junction.
- Further Restrictions: Vehicles entering James Peiris Mawatha from Navam Mawatha can only proceed to Kompannavidiya junction, while those coming from Kompannavidiya junction are restricted to Navam Mawatha junction.
- Road Closures: Muttiah Road access from the Baybrooke junction and Jinarathana Mawatha Park Street towards the temple will be closed. Additionally, entry to Hunupitiya Road from the Ramanayaka Mawatha Hunupitiya Road junction will also be closed.
Parking has been arranged at the grounds behind the Altair building for public convenience during the ceremony.
