This morning, passengers faced significant disruptions due to a strike by private buses operating on the 138 Kadawatha-Fort route. All buses on this route, as well as those from Weliweriya-Fort and Kirillawala-Fort, were suspended.
In response to the chaos, the Ceylon Transport Board has deployed several of its own buses to mitigate the impact on commuters.
The strike stems from grievances among bus operators, who report that their income has been adversely affected by the introduction of new buses on the Kiribathgoda-Fort route. Additionally, drivers have raised concerns about deteriorating conditions at the Kadawatha-Fort bus stand, citing significant mud buildup and a strong stench from an overflowing toilet pit.
The drivers have called for urgent solutions to these issues, warning that if no resolution is reached, they may abandon the service entirely.
