Unregistered Beauty Products by Piumi Hansamali Spark Health Concerns

CNFadmin

The beauty products sold by popular model Piumi Hansamali, currently a hot topic of discussion, have not been registered with the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA). Among these products, her skin lightening cream and other cosmetics are widely used in the market.

A Daily Mirror report reveals that there is no existing legal framework or specific act to regulate cosmetic products in the country. This lack of regulation hinders the NMRA from taking legal action against unregistered products.

Health authorities are reportedly working on drafting a bill to address the regulation of cosmetic products. In the meantime, numerous complaints have emerged regarding skin lightening creams, which have been linked to a significant increase in kidney disease cases, surpassing even cancer cases, according to experts.

The NMRA encourages the voluntary registration of cosmetic products to ensure consumer safety and urges the public to avoid using unregistered products, particularly skin lightening creams.
