The Department of Meteorology issued a red notice at 3:30 AM today, warning of imminent strong winds and rough seas in the Arabian Sea area. This advisory remains in effect for the next 24 hours, urging caution particularly for the multi-day fishing and marine community operating in those waters.

Forecasted under active southwest monsoon conditions, wind speeds are expected to reach 65-75 km/h, creating very rough sea conditions. Alongside these maritime concerns, intermittent rains are anticipated in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as in Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts. Some areas, including parts of Sabaragamuwa, Kurunegala, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya, may experience heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm. Additionally, Matale and Hambantota districts are likely to see scattered showers.

Further inland and in specific districts such as the western slopes of the central mountains, and the northern, north-central, and north-western provinces, gusty winds ranging from 40-50 km/h are expected intermittently. Residents and travelers in these regions are advised to stay updated with weather forecasts and exercise caution during this period of turbulent weather conditions.
