The public has been made aware of a financial scam by the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) of Sri Lanka, in which con artists pose as IRD employees in order to obtain tax payments.
The IRD said in a statement that the police have arrested multiple impostors who had been deceitfully collecting taxes from residents in different areas.
The IRD strongly advises anybody who has dealt with these phony officials or given them money to report the occurrence to the closest police station, particularly if the area in question is presently being investigated.
