A new charter intended to incorporate the upcountry plantation community into the nation’s larger socioeconomic structure has been adopted by the Sri Lankan government. Dr. Bandula Gunawardena, the Minister of Mass Media and Cabinet Spokesman, made the announcement during the weekly cabinet briefing at the Government Information Department.

According to Minister Gunawardena, the government’s efforts to uplift the upcountry plantation community and ensure their full integration into the country’s economic and social structure are guided by the charter.

“The implementation of this charter will enable the government to address the persistent challenges faced by the plantation community and foster a more equitable society within Sri Lanka,” stated Minister Gunawardena.

The Cabinet has officially approved the proposal to execute the charter, which was put out by the Minister of Estate Infrastructure Development and represents a major step in addressing the demands of the plantation industry.
