Education Ministry to Boost Exam Allowances, Reform Teaching

The Ministry of Education has announced that it has received recommendations from the sub-committee to increase the allowances paid for the grading of answer sheets for the G.C.E. Ordinary Level and Grade Five Scholarship Examinations. These recommendations are set to be submitted to the Council of Ministers for approval.

Additionally, the Ministry has informed that a proposal has been forwarded to the Public Service Commission to replace the existing modular system for teachers. This proposal, which has been communicated to teachers’ unions, is under consideration by the Commission and will be forwarded to the Ministry of Education for further action.

In a related development, the Ministry is taking steps to reduce the prices of essential exercise books and educational equipment. This intervention, initially planned for 2022, is now targeted for implementation by 2024.
